IT Performance Engineering Intern
We are looking for an IT Performance Engineering Intern to support our IT team in analyzing, measuring, and improving the performance of infrastructure and workload execution across our environments.
With this role, our goal is to create dedicated capacity for performance-focused investigations and optimization projects in close cooperation with the Development and DevOps teams. The role will focus primarily on proof-of-concept projects, test environments, benchmark activities, and production workload analysis, rather than day-to-day operation of production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze the runtime and resource usage of selected workloads and identify performance bottlenecks.
- Support performance investigations related to test setups, PoCs, benchmark environments, and production-like workloads.
- Work together with IT, DevOps, and Development teams to understand workload behavior and propose improvements.
- Participate in storage-related proof-of-concept activities, including evaluation of protocols, layouts, and configuration options.
- Help investigate network performance issues and optimization opportunities in Linux and Kubernetes-based environments.
- Create monitoring views, reports, and analyses to highlight resource inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
- Support tuning and validation of Linux system in controlled environments.
- Document findings, measurements, proposed improvements, and test results in a clear and structured way.
Key Qualifications
- Ongoing (active or passive) full-time university studies for at least one more year
- Availability of at least 20 working hours per week
- Strong interest in Linux systems, infrastructure, performance analysis, and monitoring
- Basic understanding of operating systems, networking, and server environments
- Confident usage of Linux command line tools
- Analytical mindset with a structured troubleshooting approach
- Ability to interpret measurements, logs, and system metrics
- Willingness to learn and collaborate across multiple technical teams
Considered a Plus
- Experience with Linux performance troubleshooting tools such as top, htop, vmstat, iostat, iotop, ss, iperf, or similar
- Basic understanding of CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network bottlenecks
- Familiarity with monitoring systems such as InfluxDB, Grafana, Prometheus, Telegraf
- Interest in storage technologies, filesystems, or network protocols
- Exposure to Kubernetes and containers
- Interest in benchmark design, measurement methodology, and performance reporting
- Basic scripting skills in Bash or Python
